Molveno is located on the shores of the homonymous lake in western Trentino.
Lake Molveno is the largest natural alpine lake located in Italy at an altitude of over 800 metres. Its origin dates back to the post-glacial period (3000-4000 years ago) and is due to the damming of the valley. The dam was caused by a huge landslide detached from the mountain above.
The entire perimeter (11 km) is surrounded by woods and meadows: mountain huts, farms, pastures, agritourism structures and alpine chalets, easily navigable by a path that lends itself to a pleasant walk or a mountain bike excursion.
Molveno and its lake have received two prestigious awards in recent years:
- The ORANGE FLAG, an environmental tourism quality mark for the excellent reception service and tourist information;
- The FIVE BLUE SAILS BY LEGAMBIENTE, awarded for the quality of the water, the beach, services, safety measures, separation of waste and environmental education actions.
